The current systems in place for computer science education in the Greater Charlotte Area is simply inadequate. Underprivileged and even well-funded schools in CMS and surrounding school systems often don’t have accessible CS education and opportunities. Even students who go to schools that do have CS classes often don’t have opportunities to utilize and demonstrate their skills and don’t get the recognition they deserve. We believe hackathons allow students to get hands-on with programming, focusing on Project Based Learning and rewarding students for their effort and skill. At Queen City Hacks, we will help GCA high school students from all backgrounds and of all skill levels learn, grow, and demonstrate their CS knowledge, through a collaborative, social event!
