The Town of Chapel Hill is well-known for its exceptional quality of life. Public parks and recreation play a key role in creating a healthier and more livable community. Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation offers a wide range of recreation programs and cultural activities suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds. Our programs, activities, and services for the residents and visitors of Chapel Hill greatly rely on a dedicated volunteer base. Some activities are ongoing, while others are one-time events where volunteers can contribute for a few hours. We offer orientation, training, and recognition to our volunteers. Volunteers aged 14 years and above are welcome to participate, depending on the activity. The Parks & Recreation Department has three categories of volunteers: Community Service volunteers, who volunteer on a temporary basis for 25 hours or less; On-going Temporary Volunteers, who choose to volunteer with the Parks & Recreation Department on an ongoing basis for more than 25 hours; and Court-ordered Temporary Volunteers, for individuals who are required to complete community service hours as ordered by a judge or as a condition of probation.
