Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s mission is to use diverse styles of puppetry and artistic expression to create works that inspire, promote social and environmental change and are deeply rewarding for all involved. Volunteer artists are given appropriately challenging assignments where they can work under the direction of the art directors to create original large scale puppets and stage props in preparation for delivery of independent annual Summer Shows created as “ALL AGES” performances. While shows do sell tickets with suggested donation amounts, no one is turned away for lack of funds. Paperhand Puppet Intervention is comprised of artists and volunteers who share their energy, creativity, sweat, smarts, strength, support and hold a belief in our vision and promote our mission: using puppetry, performance and creativity to promote environmental and economic justice, equality and peace. Community is the lifeblood of Paperhand. It makes the creations, performances and Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s existence possible. Paperhand is a community supported artistic collaboration dedicated to supporting artists and keeping the arts accessible. Paperhand is not registered as a non-profit, and does not receive public funds. Ticket sales, residencies, and fundraisers are the largest sources of funding for Paperhand. These funds help pay for fabric, paint, and rent, as well as puppeteers, musicians, interns and more.
