The Graduate School's goal is to educate the next generation of teachers, scholars, researchers and professional leaders and to develop the fields of knowledge and research within which these leaders will work. Each year, The Graduate School holds a ceremony to honor doctoral graduates and celebrate the successful completion of their studies. During the hooding ceremony, the name of each graduate is called, and the graduate goes on stage with his or her faculty adviser(s). The adviser places the doctoral hood over the head of the graduate, signifying his or her success in completing the graduate program.
