Seawell Critter Corner
Description

Seawell Elementary's Critter Corner is a small, on-site, volunteer run barn/farm housing a dozen chickens, two goats and a bunny. The first need that we have for volunteers is helping with the upkeep and maintenance of the feeding schedule and sleeping quarters of animals. Without this valuable service being done by our parent volunteers, the Critter Corner and its educational benefits would disappear. While there is a high need for volunteers in the Summer, this is a year round opportunity for students looking to earn hours. Training will be provided for any and all students who choose this as a way to earn service learning hours. The second area that we are looking to recruit volunteers for is the development of a Critter Corner curriculum for the early elementary (K-2) students at Seawell. Volunteers would work with a master level teacher, learning about curriculum writing and teaching strategies as they help transform the current fenced-in observational area into more of a hands-on learning experience (right now, students mainly observe the animals, but don't have guided, hands-on learning opportunities).
