Teen volunteers take on the roles of attorneys, jurors, clerk and bailiff for hearings of actual misdemeanor crimes committed by first-time youth offenders. As in traditional court, an adult judge presides over the proceedings and law enforcement monitors the courtroom. Law students help teen attorneys prepare their case, and the teen attorneys present the facts of the case to the court. The teen jury is responsible for rendering a constructive sentence that benefits the defendant and the community. Court sessions usually occur every other Monday night from around 6:30-8:45 pm in Hillsborough.
